Sanderson Stewart of Billings has been named the Northwest's top regional finalist for the U.S. Chamber's Small Business of the Year award.

The local engineering and development company is now one of seven U.S. companies competing for the top prize to be announced June 12 in Washington, D.C.

In February, the U.S. Chamber named Sanderson Stewart its Blue Ribbon Small Business winner, which put the Billings company in the running for regional finalist.

"There were 100 Blue Ribbon award winners named out of a record number of applicants and the seven finalists came out of that," said president and chief executive Michael Sanderson.

The 2014 Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award, sponsored by Sam's Club, honors community involvement and explempary business practices.

Billings Chamber chief executive John Brewer said this is the first time a local business has finished in the top 100 best companies, much less the top seven.

The other regional finalists are:

American Custom Exteriors & Interiors, Rochester, N.Y.

Quality Float Works, Inc., Schaumburg, Ill.

Xylo Technologies, Rochester, Minn.

Modernizing Medicine, Inc., Boca Raton, Fla.

Renfro Foods, Inc., Fort Worth, Texas

Cuisine Unlimited Catering & Special Events, Salt Lake City, Utah
