Workers are expected to complete by July 1 the newest Casey’s Corner Market at 3443 Central Ave. in Billings.
The store is owned by Bozeman-based Story Distributing Co. and is the 10th Casey’s in Montana. In Billings, there are Casey’s stores in the Lockwood and Blue Creek areas.
Workers at Billings-based Laughlin Construction are replacing the floor and ceiling, and have added coolers and new underground fuel storage tanks, updated the ventilation system and remodeled bathrooms, said Dan Alexander, vice president of Story Distributing.
The building previously housed a Kwik Way and other gas stations, but was vacant when Story Distributing bought it.
Total renovations will take about six months and cost tens of thousands of dollars, Alexander said, declining to name a specific price.
The property was worth $186,900 in 2013, according to tax records.
Once completed, Casey’s will sell hot breakfast, fresh sandwiches, take-and-bake pizza, Heiko’s doughnuts and designer coffee, according to Alexander. The store will have a kitchen in the back, along with a photo spread on the wall depicting Story’s first service station in Bozeman from the turn of the 20th century.
“Casey’s Corner saw Central as an opportunity to serve the local community with healthy options while updating the facility to exceed environmental standards,” Alexander said in a written statement.
The 24-hour ExxonMobil-branded store will have 12 employees, according to Alexander.
