Nick Balatsos has joined the staff of The Billings Gazette as the night reporter. Balatsos most recently was the editor-in-chief for the Branding Iron, the campus newspaper of the University of Wyoming. Prior to that he had worked for the Lowell Sun in Lowell, Mass. He has a degree in English from the University of Massachusetts and also completed coursework in computer science at the University of Wyoming. Recently, his work covering the end of former UW President Robert Sternberg's tenure there was nominated for a mark of excellence award from the Society of Professional Journalists.

Alyssa Small has also joined the staff of The Billings Gazette as a page designer. Small is a graduate of the University of Montana’s school of journalism. She also has a degree from the University of Montana in creative writing. Prior to joining The Gazette staff, she worked at the Capital Journal in Pierre, S.D.
