The National Park Service has announced five artists who will have rotating shifts as the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area's 2018 artists-in-residence.
They are Carol Hartman of Red Lodge; Arletta Pappan of Steelville, Missouri; Steve Whitfield of Oklahoma City; David Hunter of Fresno, California; and Cathleen Casey of Milwaukie, Oregon, according to an NPS press release.
“The samples the artists sent with their applications were amazing," Chief of Interpretation Christy Fleming said in the release. "We had a hard time picking our top five and would have loved to have them all, but we just don’t have the accommodations."
The artists represent photography, oil painting, nature sketches, cinch-making and acrylic painting, according to NPS. Each artist will spend two weeks at Bighorn Canyon to produce works. The time will include one day set aside for the artists to speak to visitors.
The first artist-in-residence, Whitfield, will arrive on May 29.
