Foursight: Montana art for Beijing

2014-06-20T00:30:00Z Foursight: Montana art for Beijing The Billings Gazette

Our newly appointed ambassador to China, Max Baucus and his wife, Melodee, are choosing paintings to hang in the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China. They have already selected works by two Billings artists, Harry Koyama and Carol Spielman. The Baucuses chose a bison by Koyama and asked Spielman to create a large triptych of a horse since it is the year of the horse on the Chinese calendar. Spielman said the work, which is 72 by 108 inches, is titled “Welcoming Committee.” It shipped last week and when it arrives in Beijing, it will be mounted on a red painted wall above the table in the embassy’s formal dining room.

We asked our Facebook friends what other Montana artists should be represented in China. To join in the conversation, go to

Delon Rock Above: Kevin Red Star

Deniel Ryan Campbell: Susan Karp

Karen Howell: Monte Dolack

Suzan Kinsey: Greg Eiselein

Jennifer Nielsen: David Graham’s Western art. Fantastic work!
