Poetry Infusion — Tuesdays, Sept. 10-Oct. 29, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Instructor is Danell Jones. This class will tap into participants’ imagination through a variety of innovative exercises. This is a hands-on class, so come prepared to read and write each week. Appropriate for beginner as well as advanced students. OPI credit available. Cost is $129.
Jump Start Your Writing — Saturday, Sept. 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Instructor is Danell Jones. This one-day workshop will consist of a series of writing exercises designed to encourage creativity and will introduce students to several techniques that will help them incorporate writing into their daily lives. Cost is $65.
The Craft of Writing — Wednesdays, Oct. 2-Dec. 4, 7-8:30 p.m. Instructor is Russell Rowland. This class is on how to incorporate description, character development, plot, and themes to enhance our storytelling. We will also discuss the business end of writing — submitting, looking for an agent and preparing a manuscript to make it most effectively marketable. Certificate of participation for OPI renewal available if requested upon registration. Cost is $245.
Understanding Shakespeare’s Hamlet — Thursdays, Oct. 3-31, 7-8:30 p.m. Instructor is Danell Jones. This five-week course is for anyone who wants to explore the play in-depth before it is performed at the Alberta Bair Theater on Nov. 2. Each week, we will discuss one act, untangling knotty passages, making sense of characters, imagining how a scene might be performed. No previous knowledge of Shakespeare necessary. Cost is $65.
Smart Self-Publishing — Tuesdays, 7-8:30 p.m., Oct. 15, 22, 29; Nov. 5, 12, 19; Dec. 3, 10. Instructor is Craig Lancaster. This course will guide participants through digital and print self-publishing: options for self-publishing, economics, marketing, creating files for electronic books and print-on-demand technology and best editorial practices. Cost is $129.
Building Better Characters — Saturday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Instructor is Craig Lancaster. This one-day, writing-intensive workshop will equip you with tools that will help shape deeper, richer characters for all forms of creative writing. Cost is $65.
The Joy of Poetry: How Does A Poem Sound — Mondays, 7-8:30 pm, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28; Nov. 4, 11. Instructor is Dave Caserio. Through attentive listening and internalization of poems, students will discover or rediscover the pleasure or delight of poetry. Cost is $100.
