The Missoula County sheriff’s office is looking at charging a Frenchtown bartender for serving alcohol to a man who later crashed his truck and died. Should bartenders be held responsible for people getting drunk?

Alyssa Barnes: From an ethical standpoint, bartenders should have some responsibility for over-serving as a safety concern and to protect the establishment where they are employed. Legally, no. We are ultimately responsible for our actions.

Shari Heser: Should we make car dealers responsible for car wrecks and bad drivers?

Tammy Haar: Considering that we all are adults when we go to a bar (supposed to be, anyway) and responsible for our own lives I do not think we should blame the bartender, just as we can not blame fast food for making us fat.
