MISSOULA — After all of the terrifying, exciting and romantic movies about the undead creatures, Montana will have zombie flick filmed right in our own backyard.
James Bowden, of Bowden Brothers Pictures, is looking for residents to be in the movie “Surf Zombies” on Saturday, July 5, at Caras Park in Missoula.
Besides the film shoot, organizers will host a barbecue and several live music that afternoon.
Bowden, who got his start by studying media arts at the University of Montana, said his real love for horror came when he was working with David Ackerman, an actor and director of independent films. Bowden said he spent some time working with Ackerman on one of his zombie films and felt that he had the skills to bring it to this small town.
“There have been a lot of zombie movies out and it seems like it would be a good thing to do,” Bowden said. “It is also nice that I can film it all outside, which makes it cheaper.”
Bowden didn’t want to give too much of the plot away, but he provided a few hints.
The movie begins with a Fourth of July barbecue where upstanding citizens start to turn into the brain-loving undead. Those left behind then get into a series of dance-offs and football games with the zombies.
“The movie is meant to be a comedy,” Bowden said.
He is also hosting a barbecue for anyone who is participating in the movie, because they aren’t able to pay the actors. Bands will perform during breaks in the filming. The groups will get one song in the movie and will receive 20 percent of the proceeds from the DVD release.
Dragon Parfait will begin the show at noon; Blessidoom will play at 2; Earthbound at 4 and Two ft. Titan at will begin their set at 6.
The movie and barbecue is sponsored by the Strongwater Surf Co. of Missoula.
The shoot will go from 10 a.m. till 8 p.m. They are looking for surfers, extras and make-up artists to participate in the movie.
