Merle Haggard is headlining the Red Ants Pants Music Festival July 25-28 in White Sulphur Springs.
The outdoor music festival features on-site camping and four days of music. Early-bird passes for the entire festival are now on sale for $99 through the end of March at redantspantsmusicfestival.com.
During a stint in prison, Haggard saw a 1958 performance by Johnny Cash and was inspired to join the prison’s band and turn his life around.
Haggard and his band The Strangers helped create the Bakersfield sound in the 1960s, then aligned with the outlaw country movement of the 1970s. He’s charted more than 30 No. 1 hits, including “Mama Tried,” "Okie from Muskogee” and “The Fightin’ Side of Me.”
