The Billings Gazette and Arts Without Boundaries are recognizing outstanding high school seniors in the Billings area for their contributions to the arts. Over the next few months, Enjoy will feature 18 high school seniors who are recipients of a $100 scholarship, awarded by Arts Without Boundaries, a nonprofit group that promotes the arts in K-12 schools.

Name: Caitlin Schanz

School: Skyview High School

Arts involvement: band, choir and orchestra.

Explain how your participation in the arts has had an impact on you and your scholastic success: Music has taught me how one simple note, word, or phrase can change a person’s life. With school being stressful, music is a way for me to relax. Music has become one of the biggest aspects of my life.

What influence will music have on your future? While I plan on becoming a biomedical engineer, music will always remain a huge part of my life. I hope to continue participating in choir and band through college.

How has music helped you contribute to your school and community? Participating in three music classes has allowed me to perform for many of my peers and members of the community. I find playing in concerts and the pep band some of the most enjoyable times of my life. I hope the people watching find the same enjoyment.
