Mary and Ray Olson celebrated their 65th anniversary with a special lunch that included a designated parking spot and flowers on a reserved table at Caramel Cookie Waffles as well as a four-generation family dinner at Gussick’s followed.
A date in the fall of 1948 brought Mary Farnik and Ray Olson to Billings for a Senior High versus Great Falls High football game and they ended up climbing on the Rims as well — even while she wore high heels. They were married Oct. 20, 1951, in Great Falls.
They lived in Spokane, Wash., and Lewiston, Idaho, before moving to Billings in 1954. He was a special truck adjuster for Farmers Insurance Group for 33 years before retiring in 1984. She was a homemaker as they raised 11 children.
Their children and spouses are Michelle Olson, Karen Marie Olson, John (Joyce) Olson and Kristie Olson, all of Billings; Don (Karen) Olson of Redlands, Calif.; Denise Frey and Mike Farnik of Hingham; Debbie and Mike Olson-Sevier of Glendive; Diane Olson and Naseer Ahmedof Sagamihara of Japan; Paulette and Jack DeLeonardo of Goodyear, Ariz.; and the late Tim Olson and the late Sharon Olson Pierre.
They have 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
