John and Mary Wiedmeier of Billings plan to celebrate their 60th anniversary with a family gathering.
John Wiedmeier and Mary Giggee grew up on farms near Yankton, S.D., and met at a 4-H dance. She was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse and he served in the military. They were married Nov. 18, 1956, after he returned from overseas.
They farmed together for a short time while Mary continued to teach. They left farming to attend South Dakota State University and start a family. Upon graduation, he began a 33-year career with Metropolitan Life working in agricultural investments.
During those years, they moved several times and raised three children, Bryan, Doug and Renee. Since retiring, John and Mary have enjoyed traveling, hunting, golf, bridge and spending time with family.
They have nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
