Agnes Braaten passed away after an extended illness with her children by her side.

Agnes was born to Gladys and Thorvald Aalgaard in Big Timber on Feb. 23, 1927. She grew up in the Big Timber area, graduating from Sweet Grass County High in 1945. She married Benton Braaten on Feb. 10, 1946. Agnes went on to be a wonderful wife and mother. She attended Eastern Montana College, receiving a degree in education. She taught for many years at Lodge Grass Elementary.

Agnes is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, her parents, an infant son Dennis, sisters Gertrude and Georgia, brother Harold, granddaughter Allyson and sister-in-law Joyce.

Agnes is survived by her sons Butch (Debbie) and Greg (Carol) Braaten and daughter Gayle (Marvin) Eastman, all of Billings; grandchildren Sheila, Shane, Ryan, Cole, Jeff, Ben and Josh; and six great-grandchildren. Agnes is also survived by her brothers John (Lauretta) and Thelmer (Patti) Aalgaard, sister-in-law Monica Aalgaard, uncle Hans (Betty) Algard, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Horizon Hospice Home for the compassion and loving care she received in her last days.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Big Timber Lutheran Church. Please make memorials in Agnes' name to the Alzheimer's Association. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Lowry Funeral Home, Big Timber.
