BELFRY — Josephine Obert, 81, went to be with her Lord on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011. She left this world while at the place she loved best, her log home along the Clarks Fork River south of Belfry.
Josephine was born on April 29, 1929, at Belfry, a daughter of Birt and Mary Brown. On Aug. 23, 1947, she married the man she would spend the rest of her life with, Dominic "Mickey" Obert.
To that marriage of 63 years, five children were born: Mary Lee (Ron) Krenning of Belfry, Bert (Pamela) Obert of Clancy, Joseph Obert of Riverton, Wyo., Lou Ann (Lowell) Peterson of Belfry and Marcia (Bob) Cichosz of Belfry.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, William, Abbey, Gilbert and Howard; and seven sisters, Julia Walter, Rosie Nott, Elsie Schultz, Mary Ann Gregor, Viola Wolfe, Louise Bratsky and Florence Krum.
In addition to her husband and five children, Josephine is survived by one brother, Melvin Brown of Belfry, and one sister, Minnie Young of Billings. She cherished the time she was surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Our mother bravely battled Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer without complaint and without fear. Mom knew her time was near, but as Mom always did, she waited for us. She waited for us to say goodbye. We love you, Mom, and we will miss you.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bridger. Interment will follow in the Belfry Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge.
Memorials may be given to Beartooth Hospice, PO Box 590, Red Lodge, MT 59068.
