PARK CITY — Carol “CJ” Brookie, 66, passed away peacefully at her home in Park City after a long battle with cancer. Her husband, Ron, was by her side.
CJ was born on July 17, 1948, in Viroqua, Wis., to Leland and Harriet Slack. She was raised in the Desoto, Wis., area and graduated from Desoto High School in 1966. She worked in Wisconsin for several years until she moved to Montana in 1982. This is where she met the love of her life, Ron Brookie. They were married July 7, 1984, at Veterans Park in Billings. They were married for 30 years.
CJ had a great passion and gifted eye for gardening and landscaping. She could make anything grow. Her favorite hobby was going to and having yard sales. She had a very keen eye when it came to shopping at these sales. Her artistic talents would then take over, and she would change these things into treasures for her customers. When CJ befriended someone, you then became her devoted friend for life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leland Slack.
She is survived by her husband, Ron, of Park City; mother Harriet Slack, of Lacrosse, Wis.; sisters Linda Peters, of Lansing, Iowa, Kath Jackson, of Ash Flat, Ariz., Pat Hughes, of Thomasville, N.C.; brother Charles Slack of Onalaska, Wis.; son Marc Drendel, of Chicago; daughter Shelly Skorik, of Cedar Grove, Wis.; stepchildren Diana Connon, of Rye, N.Y., Debbie Kroll, of Onalaska, Wis., and Mike Drendel and Shelly Drendel, of Lacrosse Wis.; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephew and friends.
