LOVELL, Wyo. — Daniel Ray Bowles, age 50 of Lovell, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis.
On Sept. 16, 1960, Dan was born in Livingston, Mont., to Ronald Wayne and Doris Arlene (Merritt) Bowles. Dan was raised on the family ranch. When he was a young teenager, Dan and his family moved to Columbus, Mont. Dan graduated from Columbus High School.
Being a man of many talents, he held various positions until he gained employment with Wyo-Ben, starting by throwing bags in 1985. He worked his way up to plant manager of the Sage Creek Division in Lovell, and held this position up until the time of his death.
On March 30, 1992, in Deadwood, S.D., Dan married the love of his life, Wendi Hoflund. They made their home in Lovell. Dan always said that Wendi was “his rock.”
Dan was very active with North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell as an EMT while working full time at Wyo-Ben. He had been a member of both North and South Big Horn County Search and Rescue.
Dan never met a stranger, lived his life to the fullest, and lived it the way he wanted. He enjoyed going caving, rock climbing, ice climbing and mountain biking. He loved fly fishing and just spending time with nature, sitting around the campfire in his and Wendi’s back yard. Most importantly, Dan loved spending time with Wendi and his granddaughter, Hannah “Bean.”
Dan is preceded in death by his sister, Judy Ann, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
