David Franke, 57, of Billings passed away at the Billings Clinic on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, following a prolonged illness.
David was born on April 27, 1956, in Clifton, Ariz., son of Albert and Patricia Franke. He grew up in Phoenix with three siblings and graduated from Alhambra High School in 1974. He moved on to a new adventure in 1982, when he moved to Billings. David married his best friend, Nicole Helvik, on Aug. 11, 1990, and together they loved and cared for his two sons, Matthew and Bradley. David spent 25 years in the auto industry, both in sales and finance. He was an exceptional salesman.
The majority of his work was with Selover Buick and the Car Factory. He was an avid movie and music buff. His record collection was the envy of many. He developed a new hobby of scuba diving, earning a "PADI" certification. He loved to scuba in different places, most notably Hawaii, Aruba, Routan and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Closer to home, he and Nicole had wonderful times in Las Vegas, their favorite place to go. He had a quick wit and great sense of humor. He loved to pull a good practical joke, especially on April Fools Day.
He was often the center of attention at family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife, Nicole, two sons, Matthew and Bradley; his mother, Patricia; sister Michelle and nieces, Jessica and Leslie. Also in-laws, Karen and Gary Helvik, sister-in-law, Jennifer, her husband Rick and nephews Beckett and Hudson; and numerous friends.
David was preceded in death by his father, one brother and sister, and his beloved grandmother.
A remembrance of David will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Smith Chapel downtown reception room. 925 S. 27th St., Billings MT.
