Our Heavenly Father called a humble man home. Edwin Charles Steiner passed away Wednesday April 3, 2013, at the age of 79 from a courageous battle with MDS. His final wish was granted when he passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by his side.
Eddie was born on Oct. 18, 1933, in Billings, the youngest of seven children to J.C. and Daisy Steiner. He grew up on the family-owned 7X Dairy where he and his father raised, milked and showed registered Holsteins. Eddie was a life-long member of the Holstein Friesian Association.
In April of 1957, Ed met his one true love, Violet Ketterling, and married her three months later. Ed and Vi had two children, Cheryl and Darin. In December, 1965, the family moved from the 7X dairy to their current home where Ed established the Shadow-Vale Dairy.
In 2001 after 35 years in the dairy business, Ed and Vi decided to retire and spend the remainder of their years enjoying their family and each other. He enjoyed his New Apostolic Christian Faith and his brothers and sisters in faith. Ed spent many hours in the garage staying busy and recycling everything he could from the farm.
Eddie is survived by Violet, his wife of 55 years; daughter Cheryl (Bill) Chandler; son Darin (Sherry) Steiner; grandkids, Ashley Kennedy, Erin (Mark) Christenson, Alysa (Mike) Horn, Trenton Steiner and Trey Kennedy; great-grandkids, Camryn Steiner, Landry Horn, Jax Christenson and Lexis Horn.
Eddie is preceded in death by parents, brothers Kenny, Earle, Joe and Bill, and sisters, Margaret Van Auken and Betsy Freeman.
The family would like to give a special thanks and blessing to Dr. Santala's office, the wonderful staff at the Billings Clinic ICC unit, the Fusion Center, and Rock Mountain Hospice, also the many people for their prayers and acts of kindness.
Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the New Apostolic Church, 500 15th St. W.
Smith’s Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
