ORANGE, Calif. — Frank Achten, 75, of Orange, Calif., passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013. Frank was born Aug. 18, 1938, to Frank and Helen Carrig Achten in Butte, Mont. He went to school in Rosebud, Mont., moving to Billings in 1948, graduating from Central High School. Frank served in the Army, returning to Billings, where he worked as a hod carrier in masonry, and at Tractor Supply Co., before moving to Calif. in 1968, where he met the love of his life, Norma James. Frank and Norma were married on Feb. 5, 1972. He had a career of over 30 years with the Newport-Mesa Unified School District at Costa Mesa High School and Corona Del Mar High School.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Norma; two sons, Jim and Ron; two grandchildren, Cameron and Thomas; three brothers, Ron of West Richland, Wash., Joe of Laguna Nigel, Calif., and Jerry of Billings; and three sisters, Betty Ann Baughman of Roseville, Calif., Cecilia Hanks of Trout Creek, Mont., and Marylou Friedt of Orange; also, a very close friend, Bud Smith of Custer, Mont.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, Dec. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Shannon-Bryan Mortuary, at 137 E. Maple Ave. in Orange, CA. 92866. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Billings Central Catholic High School, 3 Broadwater Ave., Billings, MT 59101.
