VANCOUVER, Wash. — Beloved father and grandfather Harold D. Schmierer passed away July 18, 2014. Harold, formerly of Glendive, died of natural causes at an adult family home in Vancouver, Wash. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive.
Harold was born Dec. 24, 1934, in Glendive. He spent most of his adult life in Glendive, but also lived in Billings, where he met and married his wife, Margaret. Harold and Margaret lived and raised their family in Glendive. He worked as a farm/ranch hand and laborer until he retired from BNSF Railroad. In 2007, he moved to Great Falls, and later Vancouver.
Harold enjoyed landscaping with his tractor, automotive work, gathering with friends for coffee, and spending time with his family. He is probably best known for his work ethic, loyalty, and immense generosity. He was described as a big grizzly bear with a very soft heart and kind spirit.
Harold is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret A. (Skartveit) Schmierer, of Glendive; his father, Jacob Schmierer, of Miles City; and his mother, Lydia (Neiffer) Jordan of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
He is survived by his bother, Jerry Jordan, of Hamilton; Karen (Jordan) Thomas, of Bellingham, Wash.; Marlene (Schmierer) Boutelle of Miles City; sons, David, of Bozeman, and Darrell, of Billings; daughter, Debbie, of Vancouver, Wash; grandchildren, Brianna Schmierer, of Vancouver, Wash. Brandon Schmierer, of Lacey, Wash., and Joshua Papworth, of Vancouver, Wash; as well as two great-grandchildren, William and Owen.
Harold will be missed greatly and loved always.
