James “Jimmy” E. Knudson, loving husband, father and beloved grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013.
Jim was born in 1954 to Kenneth and Dortha Knudson in Harlowton, Mont. He attended elementary through high school in Harlowton and graduated in 1972. He went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad and moved to Deer Lodge, where he met the love of his life, Jan. Jim and Jan were married in 1977 and lived in Deer Lodge until 1984. They had four beautiful daughters, all of whom they raised in Billings. Jim was self-employed as the owner/operator of a trucking business until the age of 42, when he started an apprenticeship to become a master plumber. He eventually went into business for himself as a master plumber, which he did until the time of his passing.
Jim enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing, but his favorite hobby was playing with his grandchildren. Jim loved the Lord and was devoted to his family. He frequently told the people he worked with, “my grandkids own my weekends.” He and his grandkids could often be found searching for frogs, building with Legos, playing on the swing set, going to the park, and visiting the pet store.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jan, of 36 years; daughter Tawny (Alex) Childs and granddaughter Bailey; daughter Lisa (Tad) Hoke and grandchildren Taylor, Lainee, Trenton and Leighton; daughter Julie Knudson and grandsons Jaden and Jaryn; daughter Amy (Mike) Horsman and grandchildren Dominic and Annmarie. He is also survived by his younger brother, Richard, his wife, Sue, and their family; and his older brother Gary.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and older brother Robert.
Cremation has taken place. A small reception celebrating his life will be held in the café at Harvest Church, Lockwood Campus, on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 3 p.m.
Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cfgbillings.com through “Our Families.”
