Jan Snyder, 80, of Billings, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013.
She was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Minnie Sue and William Fay Wetzel and had one brother, William. In 1944 her family relocated to Springfield, Mo. After Jan graduated from Senior High School in Springfield, she attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo.
Jan moved to Kansas City, Mo., to work for the Ford Motor Company. Jan met Charles “Chuck” Snyder, a World War II veteran, who was working as an intern. Jan and Chuck were married on Dec. 27, 1952, and moved to Missoula while Chuck finished law school.
Jan and Chuck moved to Billings and were blessed with three children, Natalie Sue, William Charles and Frances Elizabeth. Jan was a loving mother who brought much fun and laughter into her children’s lives.
Jan returned to college, earning a degree in special education from Eastern Montana College. Jan worked in special education at Big Sky and Burlington Elementary Schools. Jan also worked as a substitute teacher for K-12 into her early '70s.
The highlight of Jan’s life was becoming a grandma. Her grandchildren were blessed to have her involved in their lives on a daily basis. Up to the day she died, they went to movies, plays, baseball games, played games and cards, told stories and laughed together.
Jan volunteered 1,532 hours for Alberta Bair Theater. Jan was an avid sports fan and season ticket holder for the Billings Mustangs. She loved reading, going to movies, community theater and musical events.
She loved the Lord and being a Christian. She loved going to church and attending Faith Builders, bible study, and her small group. Jan was incredibly thoughtful, open-minded and always sought opportunities to learn and grow.
