PRYOR — Jason Neil Shane Jr., 50, of Pryor, died tragically on July 29, 2015, south of Pryor.
Bache Balatchia “Man of Good Morals,” a Crow name given to him by his great-grandmother Rosaleen Hunts to Slide, was born May 27, 1965, in Crow Agency, a son of Clara Hugs and Jason Shane Sr. He grew up in the Crow Agency area and received his education in Crow Agency, St. Xavier and Hardin. He was a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and was a Greasy Mouth child.
He was a direct descendent of Chief Pretty Eagle, Enemy Hunter and Pierre DuShane.
Jason married the love of his life, Tana Rock Above, on July 12, 1986, in Pryor, and the couple made their home in Pryor. He trained racehorses, loved to fish and hunt, and take part in horseshoe tournaments. He participated in several traditional Sun Dance and Sweat Lodge ceremonies. He was a Crow buffalo pasture game warden for several years and was currently employed with the Pryor Head Start Program.
His wife Tana, father Jason Shane Sr., grandmothers Sarah Shane and Mary Rose Humphrey, great-grandmother Lillian Hogan, maternal grandparents Elias and Dorothy (Big Lake) Hugs, grandfather Samuel Plain Feather, aunts Verna Hugs Rogers and Violet Hugs, uncle Robert Stops and adopted father Andrew Old Elk preceded Jason in death.
Survivors include his children Reiny (Bona Rae), Dion (Lacey), Jorah Belle, Mercedes, Jaylynn, Sarcee and Miracle Shane; his mother, Clara Hugs; brothers Frankie (Chasity) Bastien, Robert (Dawn) and Mike Shane; sisters Ada, Kendria and Zandee Shane, Joen (Quintin) Birdinground and Angie (Hartford) Bear Claw; aunts Beldean (Blaine) Small, Deanna Stops, Ramona (Chuck) Real Bird, Daisy Iron, Rita Shane, Elvina (Lloyd) Pickett, Elizabeth (Bruce) White, Dorcella Light Light and Gwendlyn Plain Bull; uncles Elias (Theo) and Leo T. (Tammy) Hugs, Bryan (Marie) Rogers, Russell Plain Feather, Kenneth (Pat) Toinetta, Ron (Beverly) Gramling Rudolph (Iva) and Ike (Rosella) Shane; grandfather Adam (Bernice) Singer; grandmothers Nellie Sings in the Mountain, Lorena Walks Over Ice, Mardell Plain Feather, Mary Wallace and Caroline Miller; as well as his extended family including the Shane, Hugs, Big Lake, Iron, Yarlott, Morrison, Humphrey, Bull Shows, Plain Feather, Beaumont, Costa, Fighter, DeCrane, Williamson, Not Afraid, Goes Ahead, Turns Plenty, Old Elk, Birdinground, He Does It, Walks, Black Hawk, Bull Horse, Takes Enemy, Doyle, Pretty Weasel, Hill, White Clay, LaFroge, Other Medicine and Little Plum family from Browning.
Joint funeral services for Jason and Tana will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the Pryor Plenty Coups High School gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Pryor Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
