Juanita “Nita” Swanson passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 9, 2018.
Juanita June McGuire was born in Bozeman, on June 29, 1933 to Alfred and Martha McGuire. She had three siblings; Patricia, Mike and Dixie.
Shortly after graduating high school, she moved to Billings with her husband Lloyd Bailey. They had four daughters; Deanna Maxine, Sonja Kay, Phyllis Ann and Yvonne Janet. She was married to Lloyd for 19 years.
Nita married Clarence Swanson in June of 1971. Shortly after getting married, they purchased land and a home between Billings and Laurel. She and Clarence shared a true passion for spending time in their yard, where Nita had hundreds of roses, flower gardens and vegetable gardens.
She was a very talented artist who owned her own ceramic shop and painted many of the items that she made. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, making quilts and afghans; which she gifted to her daughters and countless grandchildren.
She loved the annual vacation that she and Clarence took to Seeley-Swan lakes. They especially loved the years when their children and grandchildren were able to go with them.
Her favorite day of the year was Christmas Eve, when she hosted a large dinner for her family. Many years there was more than 50 people in attendance.
Nita had a heart of gold and was always willing to help her family. Her beautiful blue eyes and amazing smile will be missed by all who knew her.
Nita spent the last couple years of her life living at The Springs at Grandpark. Her family would like to thank the entire staff who cared for her. You all treated her like she was a part of your own family and we appreciate it more than you could ever know.
Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, with a viewing on Friday, May 18 from 4-7 p.m., both at Smith Funeral Chapel West, 304 34th St W, Billings. Condolences may be shared online at www.smithfuneralchapels.com.
