Kathryn Kilwein Urlacher, 91, of Billings, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at TenderNest in Billings.
Kathryn M. Klein was born on Oct. 23, 1922, in Dickinson, N.D., the daughter of Paul and Philomenia (Kubischta) Klein. Kathryn was the oldest of seven children born to them. After the death of her mother in 1938, Kathryn stayed home to help her father with the farm and her siblings. Kathryn met and fell hopelessly in love with John M. Kilwein on her father’s farm. They were married on May 16, 1942, in Dickinson. Two daughters were born to them: Judy and Donna. John passed away on May 23, 1973.
Kathryn married Valentine Urlacher, June 2, 1979. When Val’s health failed, Kathryn was able to be his caregiver until her own health failed.
Kathryn enjoyed crochet, painting, ceramics, dancing and playing cards. She was a member of St. Pius X Church.
Kathryn is survived by her daughters, Judith (Lloyd) Kilwein and Donna (Ronald) Kober, both of Billings; two sisters, Mary Berger and Veronica Oster; four sisters-in-law, Caroline Schmidt, Adeline Klein, Rosie Klein and Frieda Klein, all of North Dakota; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and Val’s four children.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Kilwein and Val Urlacher; four brothers, Anton, Frank, Valentine and Joseph.
Special thanks to the caring staff at TenderNest, Rocky Mountain Hospice and close friends Margaret and Phyllis. Their compassion and kindness to Mom and all of the family will always be remembered.
A vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Monday, March 31, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson. Avenue. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, at St. Pius X Church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rocky Mountain Hospice or St. Pius X Church.
