Leona (Triggs) Schmidt, 85, of Billings, passed away on April 7, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
She was born Aug. 12, 1928, in Linton, N.D., to Sarah and Charles (Raymond) Triggs. She married Walter H. Schmidt on Jan. 3, 1953, in Edgeley, N.D., and moved to Billings in the same year. She was a mother, caretaker and friend to many. She had a love for baking. After Walter’s death in 1982, Leona worked for Swiss Colony and then retired, staying active with friends and family. She moved to St. John’s Lutheran Home in April 2012, where she showed grace and appreciation for all who helped care for her.
Leona is survived by three daughters, Neva (Wally) Hall, Barbara (Mike) Peterson and Sharon (Gary) Herren; grandchildren, Shawn (Caro) Peterson, Duane (Patricia) Poitra, Josh (Jessica) Peterson, Dan (Danielle) Peterson, and Walter Hall; five great-grandchildren and one due any day; as well as two sisters, Polly (Wilmer) Fisher and Dora Moyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; and brothers Leroy and Marvin.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Chapel Court in St. John’s Lutheran Home (Use main entrance on Rimrock Road). Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
