Margaret Elizabeth (Jackson) Ramsey, 102, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2014. A descendant of early Montana homesteaders, her tales of early Billings and Carbon County were always entertaining and insightful.

Margaret was born to Charles and Ada Jackson on the Danford homestead near Silesia on Oct. 18, 1911. She and her sisters, Marion and Doris, walked the two miles to Byam School every day. Occasionally for fun, they would flag down the train for a ride to Red Lodge or Laurel.

Margaret met her future husband, Jess Ramsey, at a country dance in Silesia. They married in 1928. During WWII, Jess served as a chef for a naval officer in Bristol Bay Alaska, and Margaret worked at Hart-Albin in the hat department. They were reunited after WWII, and with much devotion and determination, farmed and worked together for many years. Her favorite pastimes included dancing, sewing, crocheting and gardening.

Shortly after Jess’s death in 2002, Margaret moved to West Park Assisted Living, where she made many new friends and renewed old friendships. She loved to play bingo and was excited when she won a dime.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Ramsey, and her sisters, Marion Boyd and Doris Patten. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She loved and treasured each one, often expressing her interest through handwritten letters and cards.

The family would like to thank longtime friend Kathy Todd and niece Maxine Allman, as well as the staff of West Park Assisted Living, for all their wonderful and loving care.

Memorial service will be at Cremation & Funeral Gallery 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12. Inurnment at Rockvale Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Condolences may be sent to the family at through “Our Families.”
