HARDIN — Marie K. VanderSloot, 96, matriarch of the VanderSloot family, passed away July 20, 2014, in the Heritage Acres Nursing Home.

She was born May 11, 1918, in Hedgesville, a daughter of Lamberus and Adriana Van (Anatwerpen) VanderaVoort. She married Charlie VanderSloot on May 25, 1935, in Hardin.

Marie was deeply committed to her family, farm and church, often working from morning until night to support them.

She was a faithful member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Circle. She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Daughters of America, served as Regent several times and continued to be active until age 87. She loved to garden until age 90 and was a talented quilter, making all family members a handmade quilt.

Her husband, parents, a sister, five brothers and three great-grandchildren preceded Marie in death.

Survivors include her daughters Evelyn (Fred) Chavez and Linda (Mike) Lowe; two sons Robert (Pearl) and Richard (Pat) VanderSloot; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 14 great great-grandchildren. Paula Bowler, who was a close friend and caregiver, also survives her.

Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Wednesday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday in the Church. Rite of Committal will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Daughters or the Big Horn County Historical Museum.
