On Saturday, April 3, 2010, Matt Erpenbach, 86, of Billings, passed away peacefully from natural causes with his family by his side.
After graduating from high school in Glendive, Matt joined the Marine Corp. During WWII, he proudly served in the South Pacific.
While working for Mountain Bell, Matt met and married Gloria Jensen in 1952 in Red Lodge. Together, they had and raised three sons: Greg, Lee and Terry.
In 1982, Matt retired after working for Mountain Bell for 35 years.
Matt was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and was a past Commander of the VFW.
Matt enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening. He loved to fish the Big Horn River.
Matt was preceded in death by his father, Matt; his mother, Mary; his son, Lee; his brothers, Art and Bob; and his sister Marie Fetsch.
Matt is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria; his son, Greg (Willeen) of Billings; his son, Terry of New York City; his brother, Raymond (Marilyn) of Spokane, Wash.; his brother, James (Charlotte) of Billings; his sister, Kay (Leon) Sevier of Glendive; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Matt’s life will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on Thursday, April 8, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or the Montana Rescue Mission.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at the Billings Clinic.
