CROW AGENCY - Mervin Perry Eastman, 75, a Crow elder, passed to the other side of the camp on April 28, 2011.
Kuasaaleeta "Outstanding in the middle," was born Jan. 9, 1936, in Crow Agency, a son of Perry and Lucy Cummins Eastman. He grew up in the Wyola, Lodge Grass and Kirby areas, receiving his education in Busby before graduating from Lodge Grass High School.
Mervin married Jeanette LaFountaine and they later divorced. He married Darlene Bad Bear on Oct. 26, 1962, in Sheridan, Wyo., and the couple made their home in Crow Agency.
He worked for area farms and ranches and then began a career with the Crow Tribe, serving in several capacities including Fish and Game, Law enforcement and most recently as an advisor. He was known for his racehorse training abilities.
Mervin was a member of the Catholic Church, Whistling Water Clan and was a Whistling Water child.
His wife, Darlene; grandson Kyle Kevin; sister Agnes Faraway; and brothers Delmar and Richard Eastman, Clarence, Robert and Kenneth Brien Sr. preceded Mervin in death.

Rosary will be recited 4 p.m. Monday May 2, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, in the Crow Agency St. Dennis Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Crow Agency Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
