Monty Montgomery, 71, of Billings, passed away at his home on June 15, 2014, after a long battle with cancer.
Monty was born Lowell Leon Montgomery on April 23, 1943, in Meriden, Kan., to Henry and Mary Montgomery. He attended schools in Livingston and Helena. He owned and operated Montana’s first Harley Motorcycle dealership, M&T Custom Cycles in Helena, and worked as a groundskeeper for Western Security Bank in Billings.
Monty was a veteran of the Army, serving as an Airborne Black Hat and Pathfinder in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969. He received several medals during his term. Monty became an avid photographer, snapping hundreds of pictures to document his journey.
Monty married the love of his life, Mary Anthony, on Sept. 21, 1991. They enjoyed spending time together, playing with their dogs, and riding their Harleys. Monty sometimes carried their Jack Russell Terrier, Zack, on the back. Monty enjoyed wood carving, especially carving unique walking sticks for friends; sightseeing; traveling to the East Coast to play Santa Claus at Christmastime; and volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, where he rescued their Chihuahua, Bugsy.
Monty is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, Mary.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at Smith Funeral Chapels, 925 S. 27th St., Billings, MT 59101.
