Muriel Lofthus, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and special friend, after a valiant fight, lost her battle with cancer on July 24, 2014.
Muriel was born in Manfred, N.D., to Arnold and Esther Knodel on Jan. 26, 1930. She attended a small country school and then graduated from Fessenden High. She attended Fargo Business School where she met James Lofthus. They married and had five children together. In 1965, they moved to Billings where they raised their family until Jim’s passing in 1980, after thirty-one years of marriage.
Muriel went to a Fessenden High School all class reunion and became reacquainted with an old high school sweetheart. She and Don Strauss got married and spent ten years together.
The last twelve years were shared with her special friend, Herb Grace. They enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Ariz. and summers in Billings.
Muriel enjoyed spending quality time with family, laughing, singing, and making memories.
She is survived by her friend, Herb Grace; her children, Claudia (Dave) Landon, Cynthia Lofthus, Valerie Lackman, Melanie (Gary) Hooper, and Bruce Lofthus; grandchildren, Justin Landon, Jennika (Luke Tracey) Landon, Luke (Danielle) Lackman, Stephanie (Jake) Wright, Woody Hooper, Drew Hooper, Kyle Lofthus, Keana Lofthus; and six great-grandchildren with the seventh on the way.
Muriel is preceded in death by her husband, James Lofthus; her parents; her brother, Arnold Knodel; and son-in-law, Dan Lackman.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary with interment in the Rockvale Cemetery.
