LAUREL — Raleigh Herman passed away March 28, 2014, due to a heart attack after a long courageous battle with cancer. Raleigh was born on May 1, 1942, to Fred and Wilma Herman. He attended school in Laurel graduating in 1961. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he was stationed in California as a jet aircraft service tech. Upon discharge in 1965, he moved back to Laurel where he met Dana Kenyon. They were married Dec. 22, 1965. Raleigh worked various jobs before beginning his 30 year career with Sysco foods logging three million accident free miles. Retiring in 2004, he enjoyed putting up hay, carpentry and his horses. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, giving them rides on his Scooter. He was a simple man with a carefree attitude as he was seen hauling hay bales strapped to his car. He will be missed by many.
Raleigh was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gordon. Survivors include wife Dana; brother Larry (Marie) Herman; children Shannel (Scott) Reiter, Trevor (Renee) Herman and Nathan (Eric) Herman, Cortney (Bruce) Thiel. Nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In memory of Raleigh, donations can be made to Kids 'n' Cowboys/Chase Hawks Memorial Foundation at P.O. Box 31333, Billings, MT. 59107.The funeral services will be held at the First Congregational Church in Laurel on Wednesday, April 2, at 1 p.m.
