Roy Drury Russell Jr. of Billings is finally pain free and has found peace. He passed away in his sleep Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Roy was born on Sept. 29, 1924, in Kansas City, Kan., to Roy and Dorothy Olma Russell. He was the second-oldest of 10 children. He was proud of how far his eighth-grade education took him and the fact that he joined the Navy when he was 17 years old.

Roy had three daughters, Susan, Betsy and BelvaJean. He had six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He married BettyMae Burtts on June 11, 1949. Roy is preceded in death by his wife, BettyMae, daughter Betsy McKeon and great-grandson David Armstrong.

Roy lived a full and interesting life and always had a story to tell about his life in the Navy as a diver or when he was mayor of Steele, N.D., or one of his many fishing or hunting stories. His favorite things were camping, hunting, fishing, doing woodworking and playing cribbage or pinochle.

Survivors include his daughter Susan Berg (Todd); her two stepsons, Joseph and Douglas; her two grandchildren, Ethan Wick and Paisley VanVallis; his daughter BelvaJean Burtts and her two sons, Thomas and Tyler Lawson; his granddaughter Samantha Russell Armstrong (Shane); her three children, Shayla, Carys and Corbin; his grandson Dustin Heiman; his sisters, Anne Pickett, Patty Kelley and Nancy Bennett; his brother, William Russell; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army at 2100 Sixth Ave. N. Small reception will follow. No other services are planned.

Family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Salvation Army, in memory of Roy and BettyMae Russell.
