LODGE GRASS — Ruth Falls Down-Bell Rock, 63, of Lodge Grass, passed away June 26, 2013, in the Billings Clinic.

She was born Nov. 22, 1949, in Lodge Grass, a daughter of Robert and Delphine Backbone Falls Down Sr. She was raised in the Lodge Grass area while receiving her education at St. Labre and Lodge Grass.

Ruth was a member of the First Crow Indian Baptist Church, Ree Society, Big Lodge Clan and was a child of the Bad War Deeds. She worked for over 16 years as a para-professional in the Lodge Grass School system. She enjoyed helping the children learn to read and write while in the Lodge Grass Elementary School. She was an avid Lodge Grass Indian basketball fan and enjoyed family gatherings. She liked to watch her family members participate in arrow throwing and hand game events.

She married Stanley Bell Rock Sr., in Sheridan, Wyo., and the couple resided on Owl Creek southeast of Lodge Grass.

Her parents, stepfather Walter Onion, husband, sister Cora Bends, brothers Robert Falls Down Jr., and Alvin Alden, nieces Jaclyn and Joselyn Falls Down, and nephew Dana Falls Down preceded Ruth in death.

Survivors include her daughters Roberta (Hiram) Armajo and Bethany (Brandon) Old Elk; her son Clifton (Valerie) Falls Down; her namesake and auntie-mom Ruth Alden; her sisters Jennifer (James) Medicine Horse, Wilma (Gary) Stewart, Frances, Laurie, Daphne and Clara Alden, Lavonne (Moses) Tall Bear, Joselyn (Clarence) Three Irons, Anita (Dana) Old Coyote, Francine (David) Camden, Noreen, Darlene and Donna Backbone, Nadine (Dean) Dawes, Kathleen (Reuben) Yellowtail, Alta (Delano) White Clay, Susan Real Bird, Jennifer (Kenneth) Turns Plenty, Carla and Dora Kay Falls Down, Shirley (Bill) and Lucille Dawn Stewart, Harold Dine Backbone, Merlene (Donnie) Harjo, Laura Pickett and Arlene (Robert) Fitch; her brothers Ronald (Georgine), Marvin (Gwen) and Clayton (Rebecca) Falls Down, Gary (Barbara) Gardner, Rudolph (Iva) Shane, Joseph (Charlene) Aldren Jr., Shawn (Evelyn), Billy (Pamela) Jr., and Frank (Callie) Backbone Jr., Harold (Debbie) Backbone, Alton (Janet) Backbone, John (Tracy) Bid Medicine, Edward (Francine), Randy (Raphelle) and Blaine Real Bird, Ross (Roberta) and Manuel (Cindy) Whiteman; her adopted sons JR (Aldeen) Good Luck, Thomas (Karna) Yarlott, Doug Lynch and Bradford (Loretta) Crooked Arm; her adopted daughters Jodie and Alfredine Brien, Sarah Medicine Horse and Katherine Pretty On Top; her aunt Phyllis (Merle) Big Medicine; her uncles Blaine Falls Down, Robert and Joe (Rena) Pickett; her grandchildren Nathanna, Darwina, Tamara, Wayman, Steven, Brendan, Cole and Jovonna; her great grandchildren Taylar, Kimberleigh, Charlie, Andale, Tierney, Braylee and Joseph Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her extended family including the Falls Down, Backbone, Other Medicine, Left Hand, Pickett, Not Afraid, Walks, Bird In Ground and Old Elk families. Our family is very large; if we missed you, please accept our apology.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 1, in the Lodge Grass High School Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
