On Jan. 15, 2013, Sandra Glenn, 71, passed peacefully home to God with her daughter, Lauri, by her side.
Sandra was born on April 14, 1941, in Billings, as the third of nine children born to Frank and Lottie Critelli in their cozy family home. On Sept. 12, 1959, she married classmate James Glenn and they were blessed with three children. Kristine Annette, Lauri Jo, and Dallas James. Soon after marrying, Jim and Sandra moved to Bozeman, where Jim attended college. After graduation, Jim and Sandra moved their family to Helena and then later returned to Billings.
Sandra was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1969. The disease remained mostly dormant for many years, during which time she divorced and moved to Alaska for a fresh start. Mom relished her time there, embracing all things Alaskan from the Iditarod race to the ice break up in spring. It gave us a glimpse of the pioneer spirit deep inside her. When her MS resurfaced in the mid-80’s, she returned to Billings to be with family and a long and courageous struggle with the disease ensued. Throughout, Sandra fought hard to stay active and maintain her independence, often walking up to 10 miles a day.
Her family was always important to her; she learned her graceful ways from her mother and her strength and tenacity from her daddy. Family and friends frequently describe her joyous smile. Her children repeatedly speak of her courage and strength. Sandra's final years were spent at Autumn Care II, where Cameo Lessman and staff worked very hard to care for her. Cameo, you are a sister to all of us and we love you -- just as mom loved you and you loved her. Many family members visited – most particularly her sister Sonja - bringing food, laughter and love.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lottie Critelli and ex-husband James Glenn. Sandra is survived by her children: Kristine (Paul Bevacqua) Glenn, Lauri (Carmen) Berumen, Dallas (Cressa) Glenn. Grandkids are Tiara Tracy, Alden Carmichael, Hailey "Halo" (Devon) Hildreth, and Tennessee, Jordan, Willow and Bella Glenn. Great-grandkids are Andrew, Amaya, Peyton and Hailey’s coming newborn. Siblings are Gary (Sharon) Critelli, Sonja (Russ) Reece, Rodney (Doris) Critelli, Jackie (Dale) Samsal, Jeannie (Bruce deceased) Jamison, Robin (Stephen Berg deceased) Critelli, Rocco (Joey) Critelli, and Colleen (Jerry) Drinkwalter.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 1:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on St Johns and 10th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the MS Society or Bethlehem Lutheran Church
Mom, much of your life was spent in terrible pain, yet you showed us how strong you and we can be. We will carry your grace, your strength and your love with us until we are together again. We love you, Mom, and can’t wait to see you again.
