CROW AGENCY — Silas Henry Big Medicine, 23, of Crow Agency, died Sunday, May 30, 2010, in the Big Horn County Memorial Hospital, of injuries sustained in a pickup truck accident.
Bilaxe, “Drum,” his Crow name was given to him by his grandfather Silas Big Medicine. Si, as he was known by his family and friends, was born Sept. 3, 1986, in Crow Agency, a son of Frank and Selma White Antelope Big Medicine. His grandmothers Joan Bear Below Big Medicine and Marietta Big Medicine raised him in the Dunmore area. He received his education at the Crow Head Start, Crow Agency, Hardin, Butte and Helena schools, before completing his education at the Billings New Day School.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, Big Lodge Clan and was a Whistling Water child.
Silas loved playing basketball, lifting weights and listening to music. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the Chicago Bulls, football and all types of sports on television. As a young boy, he enjoyed raising cats and dogs, fireworks during the 4th of July celebrations and playing video games, as he grew older. His favorite time of the summer was Crow Fair, where he was able to be with his family and friends and enjoyed all of the BBQs and food from the arbor.
His father Frank and grandparents Silas Big Medicine, Eddie and Regina Foote preceded Si in death.
Survivors include his grandmothers, Joan Bear Below Big Medicine and Marietta Big Medicine of Dunmore; his mother, Selma White Antelope; his sisters, Darla Milda, Alpha Jean, Ceta, Jihan, Jolyn and Cailyn Big Medicine; his brothers, Chris Francisco Jr., Abram Peltier, Christian Wesley, Robert Martinez Jr., Kyle and Dylan Big Medicine; numerous aunts and uncles; her cousins Antonia and Arlene Bird in Ground, Kerwyn Old Elk, Jayanna Real Bird, Misty Louie, Asia, Tamara, and Kenyon Big Medicine; as well as his extended family including the Big Medicine, Bear Below, Big Man, Big Hair, House, Dawes, Horn, White Antelope, LaForge, Foote, Fox, Reed, Little Light, Holds Enemy, Deputee, Pickett, Medicine Crow, Bear Claw, Beads, Small, Chavez, Howe, Couture, Yellowmule, Bird in Ground, Plenty Hawk, Bad Bear, Sees the Ground, Old Horn, Pretty Weasel and Plain Bull families. Rosary will be recited 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, in the Crow Agency St. Dennis Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Crow Agency Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
