FORSYTH — Sue Ellen Forsythe was born on Jan. 23, 1948, and died on Jan. 12, 2013, after an intermittent 10 year battle with breast cancer. Sue taught all school grades K-8 in Rosebud County schools spanning 30 years. She graduated in English from UC Santa Barbara in 1969 and received a Masters in English from UM Billings. From childhood until she was unable to continue she pursued a music ministry, playing piano and singing soprano with church, school and private groups, including weddings, funerals and other special events. For 20 years she directed a four-part (SATB) choir at the Federated Church in Forsyth, where a memorial service will be held for her on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 12:30 p.m.
After retirement from teaching, she became more active in community betterment including work on the city council, teaching Horizon classes, organizing a retired teacher’s group and a yoga group. She also was active in a bridge group and a book reading group and enjoyed playing Scrabble with her husband. They enjoyed traveling in North America, and they toured the former Soviet Union and Vietnam. They made over 50 trips focused on visiting California family and about a dozen trips visiting family in the midwest.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John; son John (Sherri Brunner) and granddaughters Molly and Amber of Sauk Centre, Minn., and granddaughters Emily Forsythe of Belgrade, and Becky Dower of Bozeman; sister Beth Masiello (Mario); niece Christi Okuma (Chad); great nephew Maxim; and mother Margaret Williams, all of Irvine, Calif. Son Edward predeceased her.
