Thayne H. Rapp, 84, of Billings, joined his beloved wife, Frances, whom he affectionately called his “Little Prairie Flower,” in Heaven on March 19, 2014.
Thayne was born in Glendive on Sept. 5, 1929, to Clarence and Lavilla Rapp. At the age of 12, his family moved to Sunny Slope, west of Fairfield, where they farmed. It was there that he met and married his true love, Frances, on Oct. 10, 1947, in Choteau. They were blessed with four children and later moved to Billings, where Thayne embraced the journey of providing for his family.
He was a gifted pilot and shared his love of flying with many friends. His hobbies included restoring vintage tractors and feeding all of the wildlife that call his backyard home. He was a hero and best friend to his six grandsons that he proudly called his “half of a baseball team.”
Dad was always positive, never speaking a negative word. He taught his great-grandchildren how to wink with one eye and give a thumbs-up. He always said, “The good Lord has a plan. He has everything under control, and I trust Him.” He looked forward to the promised gift of eternal life with Jesus.
Thayne was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Steve Rapp; brothers Eldon and Lee; sister Belva; granddaughter Jennifer J’Lynn Thompson; and great-granddaughter Tavanna Victoria Rapp. He is survived by his brothers Jerry (Frances) Rapp and Chris Rapp; children Darryl Rapp, Diana (Ed) Rookhuizen, Becky (Barry) Thompson; grandchildren Ryan (Jodi) Rookhuizen, Brad (Melanie) Rapp, Kevin (Laura) Rookhuizen, Brandon (Garilynn) Rapp, Quentin (Meagan) Thompson, Jay (Lacey) Thompson; great-grandchildren Tyler Rapp, Austin Rapp, Jadon Rapp, Olivia Rapp, Gavin Thompson, Ellie Rookhuizen, Colton Thompson, Andrew Thompson and Cora Rookhuizen.
Funeral services will be held at Smith West Funeral Chapel, 304 34th St. West in Billings on Monday, March 24, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be Saturday, March 22, and Sunday, March 23, from 1 to 5 p.m., as well as prior to the services.
