SCOBEY — Vicki Ann (Vanderpan) Stratton lost her lengthy battle with liposarcoma on April 4, at home, surrounded by her family.

Vicki was born in Scobey, on Jan. 4, 1947, to Walter and Eugenie (Lebel) Vanderpan and attended school in Scobey, graduating in 1965. She met Gary (Louie) Stratton while still in high school, and after graduation, she started work at Citizen’s State Bank. On Jan. 29, 1972, she and Louie were married and they moved to Columbia Falls, where they owned and operated Stratton’s Texaco for four years, and then returned to Scobey where they have resided since then.

Vicki started working part time at the Senior Citizens Center in 1994 and was appointed Center Coordinator in 2002, a position that she didn’t think of as a job, but as a privilege of taking care of her extended family. Vicki’s potlucks, dinners and holiday parties at the Center were always a joyous culinary and social event and much appreciated by everyone who attended. She loved cooking, decorating cakes, making her special donuts and baking delicious treats for her family and friends. Christmas was always a time that she would make cookies and candy for her senior citizens, family and friends. To be on the receiving end of a plate of her cookies, candy and donuts was something many looked forward to.

Vicki also loved doting on her pets, relaxing with friends on her deck, and making summer trips west to the mountains to visit family and friends. Her quick wit, delightful sense of humor and infectious laugh will be remembered and treasured forever.

Vicki is preceded in death by her parents and survived by her husband of 44 years, Louie Stratton, sisters Jill Vanderpan of Simi Valley, Calif., Janine Scott and Chuck Gatzemeier of Cut Bank (whom she loved and thought of as her own dear brother instead of her brother-in-law); nephew Jason (Jodi) Scott of Dickinson, N.D.; niece Jessica Scott of Renton, Wash.; “adopted son” Gary (Pat) Sandefer of Columbia Falls; aunts Aida Buer of Great Falls, Pattie Nelson of Spokane, Wash.; uncle Jim Buer of Scobey; goddaughter Natasha (Vatnsdal) Kotowicz of Alverado, Minn.; godson Nathan Vatnsdal of Bismarck, N.D.; and her very special friends Wayne Vatnsdal and LouAnn Wahl of Scobey.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Philip’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m., with funeral services on Wednesday, April 9, at 11am. After the luncheon, ashes will be interred at the Vanderpan family plot in the Daniels County Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Because of Vicki’s dedication and love for animals, memorials can be made to an animal shelter of your choice in lieu of flowers.
