ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Wade Anthony Sotelo was born in Alexandria, La., at the Air Force Base Hospital on Feb. 28, 1959, to Sandra and Anthony Sotelo. Wade passed away Aug. 22, 2003, at his home in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Wade's childhood was spent in Albert Lea, Minn., and Roundup, where most of his relatives lived. Wade loved dogs … and he loved hiking in the Bull Mountains and swimming and floating down the Musselshell River. As a young boy, Wade looked up to his step-dad, Ronnie Radke, who took him and his sisters and brother in as if they were his own children. Wade joined the Navy at age 17, training as an Interior Communications Electrician, and received his G.E.D. while there. After being honorably discharged in 1982, he attended Columbia School of Broadcasting. He went to work with the Long Beach Aerospace Corp. McDonnell-Douglas in Los Angeles. Fascinated with the fiber-optics advances, he worked for companies such as MCI, ICG Communications, and TCG in south Florida. He also worked for Carnival Cruise Line on board the Celebration as a DJ in the Disco, requiring 26 weekly cruises to the Caribbean and Virgin Isles. Most recently he worked for Touch America in Salt Lake City for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Wade was an avid golfer and sports nut, especially football, but his greatest passion was music; singing, playing and writing it. He spent countless hours with his close friends, playing their guitars and enjoying a special camaraderie. He loved his friends and family, and adored his nieces and nephews. Wade was a kind heart, very generous and loving. He had an unbelievable sense of humor; he could always make us laugh. Wade we will miss you every single day.
Wade was preceded in death by his beloved Grandpa Harry Partington; Grandma Doris (Olson) Partington; his aunt, Lenore Quickstad; and numerous aunts and uncles on the Sotelo and Olson sides. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Vandegrift; step-father, Glen Vandegrift; his father, Anthony Sotelo, Ron Radke; Uncle Harry Partington, Jr. and Antoinette; brothers, Delano, Anthony and Stanley Sotelo; sisters, Lisa Sotelo, Julie (Lon) Carter, Terry (Brian) Hanson; nieces and nephews, Nicho, Kairo, Tasa, and Asher Sotelo, Tara, Aaron, and Leah Hanson, Jade, Saphire, and Chalce Carter, Joshua Johnson, Maegan Myers, and Jessica Elzea; and many, many cousins and friends.
