LODGE GRASS - William Dean Day Child, 50, of Lodge Grass passed away Oct. 2, 2009, in the St. Vincent Hospital.

Billy, as he was known, was born Jan. 28, 1959, in Crow Agency a son of William Day Child and Daisy Cooper. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents Harold and Eloise Pease in the Spear-siding area south of Lodge Grass. He attended schools in Lodge Grass and the Intermountain Indian High School in Utah. He later attended the Kicking Horse Job Corps Center in Ronan, receiving a heavy equipment operator certificate.

He married Benedicta Old Bull on Aug. 3, 1981, and the couple later were divorced. He was an accomplished guitar player, who enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He was an avid Denver Bronco fan. Billy was employed as a heavy equipment operator, firefighter, seismographer, sawyer and most recently as a truck driver/operator for the Town of Lodge Grass. He was a member of the Whistling Water Clan and participated in the Sweat Lodge and Sun Dance ceremonies.

Billy will be fondly remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, love of music and all the great times he shared with his family and friends.

His grandparents Harold and Eloise Pease; brother Kenny Yellowtail and his nephew Jarvis Door preceded Billy in death.

Survivors include his companion Leitha Spotted Horse; daughters Twila and Eloise Day Child, Melissa (Neal) Johnson and Nita (Amos) Brown; sons James Day Child and Bryan Old Bull; his father William Day Child Sr.; his mother and stepfather Daisy and Felipe Castro; his grandmother Sylvia (Hartford) Stops; sisters Lisa and Pam Day Child, Phyllis Castro, Kimberly Not Afraid, Jennie Cooper-Hope, Colleen Farwell-Jock and Sara Lorton; brothers Tony and Felipe Castro, GeorgeJacob and William Farwell, Marty and Jeremy Not Afraid, Willis and Lyle Day Child, Franklin Cooper, Garrett Door Jr. and Brian Lorton; six grandchildren; his adopted brothers Byron Bends, Cedric Hugs, Myron Eastman, Tony Pisano, Scott Pease, Marvin and Ricky Stops; aunts Sylvia Farwell, Candace Leider, Bernice Day Child Singer, Marge Day Child, Ramona Howe and Connie Jackson; his adopted children, Trulyn Old Crane, Tasha Little Light, Chantel Bull Chief, Robert Springfield, Salvador Hernandez, Jessie Shane and Eli Don't Mix; as well as his extended family including the White Bear, Pease, Big Man, Old Elk, Moccasin, Real Bird, Gopher, Cooper, Wallace, the late Agnes Holds, Inez Birdinground and Frances Falls Down families.

Billy's family would like to thank the St. Vincent's 3rd floor nursing staff and Dr. Kim for the care given to our loved one.

Prayer services will be held 7 p.m. Monday Oct. 5, in the Lodge Grass Catholic Church Gymnasium. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass Cemetery Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
