Montana State Parks is seeking public comment on a draft environmental assessment for proposed restoration of the historic McCarty Cabin in Makoshika State Park, road access to the site and creation of a vault latrine. Comments are due by Aug. 2 at 5 p.m.

The project would also restore the abandoned road to the McCarty Cabin, utilizing the existing road footprint, and provide for parking. The road will be 18 feet wide and 600 feet long.

Potential uses of the McCarty Cabin include overnight rental for the public, volunteer housing and to serve as an interpretive education center.

The cost of the project is estimated at $50,000 and would be paid for from the state parks’ capitol funding.
