Local youngsters will have the opportunity to shoot rifles, shotguns, black powder, pistols and bows as well as participate in climbing a rock wall and retriever demonstrations during Saturday's third annual Big Sky Youth Event at Blue Creek Sport Shooting Complex.

Jamie Gray, 2012 U.S. Olympic gold medal shooter, will assist on the rifle range, speak during lunch about how she got involved in shooting and give a demonstration of her shooting skills.

Lunch will be provided and door prizes will be awarded. The event begins at 9 a.m. and will run until noon. Registration will open at 8:30 a.m. and preregistration via email or phone is strongly suggested. You can preregister at BSYE14@gmail.com or by phoning 628-9328.

The free event is being hosted by the Mule Deer Foundation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club International of Montana, Friends of the NRA, the Wild Sheep Foundation and Cabela’s. The event was created to introduce, instruct and inspire youngsters to participate in the shooting sports and conservation.

Last year the event hosted more than 155 children and about the same number of parents with the help of more than 50 volunteers.
