If you're interested in how the wolf hunting season may be altered in Montana, you can listen in to the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission's teleconference today at 3 p.m.

According to FWP's weekly wolf report, the teleconference can be accessed by logging on to: http://fwp.mt.gov/doingBusiness/insideFwp/commission/meetings.html

The public can also hear the teleconference by going to their local FWP regional office, but only in regions 1 through 5.

The commissioners are discussing how to handle hunting in wolf management unit 3, which includes much of the southern half of Montana.

Last week, in response to nine wolves being killed in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness during the early rifle season, the commission closed the season in that hunting district. The total take for the entire WMU 3 is 12 wolves. The general season doesn't open until Oct. 25.

The commission asked FWP to draw up a proposal that would increase the quota in WMU 3 by reducing the quotas in the two other management units, but still keep the overall take in the state to 75.

Any formal change will still be subject to public notice and public comment before a decision is made.
