A hunter education course and field day have been scheduled in Plentywood.
The course will run from 5 to 9 p.m. on June 2, 4 and 6. The field day — where practical skills learned in the classroom are tested — will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 7 at the Westby Gun Club.
Any person born after Jan. 1, 1985, must present a hunter education certificate in order to purchase a hunting license in Montana, and students must be at least 11 years old by the first day of class to be certified. Students over the age of 18 have the option of taking the course online through the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov.
The field day is open to online course graduates, as well as those who have completed the Plentywood classes. All students wanting to take the Plentywood course must preregister online through the FWP website by going to the “Education” and “Hunter Education” sections and filling out the required information. Separate online registration through the same website is also required for the field day. Course class size is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
A pre-course orientation session that all students must attend is set from 5 to 6 p.m. on May 29 in the Sheridan Room of Plentywood’s Montana State Bank, 220 N. Main St. For more information, call instructor Ryan Williamson at 406-895-2468.
