In 2011, ExxonMobil Pipeline Co.'s Silvertip Pipeline broke and spilled about 63,000 gallons of oil into the Yellowstone River. In October 2016 a settlement agreement with ExxonMobil was reached. Projects are now being considered for the area, using settlement funds provided by the oil company.
