Billings author Russell Rowland will give a free talk about “The Evolution of the Western Identity” at Pictograph Cave State Park on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Rowland co-edited and published an anthology of essays by writers from all over the West titled “West of 98.” The work explores what it means to each of the authors to be a westerner, and how it formed them as writers and people.

Rowland, the author of two novels based in Montana, talks about how the Western identity has been formed and how these contemporary writers view the West today.
