1939 carp catchers

A Sept. 27 Your shots photo of three young men holding a carp jarred Jack Liedle's memory. He brought in this photo, taken in 1939, showing from left to right: Alvin Rothschiller, 12; Harry Krug, 11; and Liedle at age 10. "We caught this carp, by hand, in a small irrigation ditch that ran past the sugar factory," Liedle writes. "We took it up town to the St. Louis Cafe on Montana Avenue. The owner, Charlie, gave us .45 cents for the 8-10 pound fish, but he must have made a good profit by putting it as a special item on the menu. But we were very happy with the money."
