A federal judge this week sentenced a Billings man with an extensive criminal record to prison for illegally possessing a firearm.

U.S. District Judge Susan Watters on Wednesday sentenced Terry Lee Feller, 58, to 33 months for his guilty plea to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Feller, who has more than 15 convictions since 1983, had moved into a home on the 4200 block of Arden Avenue shortly after being released from state prison in April 2015, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

A short time later, a home in the neighborhood was broken into. One of the burglary victims confronted Feller’s landlord, who told the victim that she had seen Feller bringing items into the home and that she did not know where they had come from.

The landlord allowed the victim to search the home and she found several of her stolen items in a bedroom used by Feller. The victim contacted the Billings Police Department.

Officers arrived and searched the home and a car Feller had been using. Found in the search was a stolen 9 mm pistol.

Feller later admitted to law enforcement that he had possessed the pistol and knew it was stolen.

Feller's criminal record includes felony convictions in Yellowstone, Cascade and Pondera counties for drug, theft and burglary crimes.
